When I was having a hard time trying to conceive, my doctor put me on prenatal vitamins. He told me that they weren’t just for those who were already pregnant, and if I was trying to get pregnant, I needed to be taking them too.
That way, when the big conception occurred, I was already a step ahead in having a healthy pregnancy and baby. Though my doctor did this with me, not all doctors will do it. If this is something you want to do, your doctor might do it if you are asking.
There are some women who have told me that they cannot take prenatal vitamins because they get sick from them. They stopped taking them, which I thought was a very bad idea. Though they may have made them feel like they were going to throw up, they were important for the health and well being of the unborn baby they were carrying.
These women were smart though. When they stopped taking the prenatal vitamins, they took strict control of their diet to be sure the baby was not missing anything that it needed.
If your doctor wants you to take prenatal vitamins, but you find they make you sick, you should talk to your doctor before you just stop taking them. You want to be sure you are covered and that your baby is getting adequate nutrition.

There may be other vitamins you can take, or you may be able to use some other means to stop the nauseous feeling that comes when you are taking the prenatal vitamins. Though you may feel queasy, you still have to think about the baby. Make sure you ask for assistance before you quit them all together.
There are prenatal vitamins you can find in your local store, and there are some that are prescribed by your doctor. I’m not sure what the difference might be, or if there is any danger in taking the prenatal vitamins that you find in the store without a prescription. When it doubt, it is always best to talk to your doctor. If you can’t reach him or her, call in and talk to a nurse, and tell them what is going on.
Also let them know you need to hear back as soon as possible. If you aren’t eating a balanced diet, and you stop taking vitamins, you are risking your baby’s health. Babies are fragile and you want to give them the best start possible.…
